Katherine Mayer Mangan obtained her Juris
Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center
in 2004, graduating as magna cum laude,
Order of the Coif, and in the top 1%
of her class. At Georgetown, Katherine was
an Executive Editor of, and was published
in, the Georgetown Law Journal. Katherine
obtained her B.A., summa cum laude,
from Pomona College in 2000.
After graduating from
Georgetown Law, Katherine clerked for the
United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit from 2004-2005, and then was a trial
attorney for the United States Department of
Justice in the Environmental Enforcement
Section from 2005-2006.
Katherine then joined
the San Diego office of Latham & Watkins. At
Latham, Katherine specialized in appellate,
municipal, and labor/employment law.
Katherine drafted numerous motions and
briefs, including three successful demurrers
in litigation valued at over $300 million
and a successful motion for summary
adjudication eliminating multi-million
dollar punitive damage claim. She also
argued numerous motions, including one that
resulted in obtaining over $4 million in
attorneys’ fees. She also briefed and
argued a Ninth Circuit appeal that resulted
in a published opinion in her client’s
favor.
During her time at
Latham & Watkins, Katherine founded the
Appellate Litigation Clinic at the
University of San Diego School of Law, which
handles pro bono appeals in the Ninth
Circuit. She also taught a seminar on
appellate advocacy at the law school, and
supervised law students as they litigated
appeals. Katherine also conducted a seminar
called “How to Win an Appeal,” presented to
San Diego City Attorney’s Office, in August,
2008.
After five years at
Latham & Watkins, Katherine left the firm to
become a freelance attorney, and joined
Montage Legal Group in the summer of 2011.
Katherine is currently doing freelance
projects for law firms in California, as
well as handling appeals and litigation
matters through her own solo practice, Mayer

Katherine lives with
her infant son and husband in San Diego, CA,
and she enjoys swimming, especially in La
Jolla Cove, hiking, and traveling. |
