Laura
Icken earned her Bachelor of
Arts degree in History from
Dartmouth College and obtained
her Juris Doctor and Masters
of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University Law
Center in 1991.
Laura is
fluent in French and German
and has a working knowledge of
Spanish. After Georgetown,
Laura received a DAAD
scholarship to study
comparative law in Europe and
spent a year in Germany
learning German and EU law.
From 1993-95 Laura was an
associate at Clifford Chance (fka
Rogers & Wells) in New York in
both the litigation and
corporate transactional
departments. She returned to
France and Germany in the late
nineties, where she was an
associate with Freshfields
(the U.K. law firm) and
Shearman and Sterling. She
eventually joined client
Pearson aka Fremantle Media,
and thus transitioned into
media and entertainment
transactional work.
Laura
returned to the U.S. with
National Geographic Television
and various Fox entities in
the early 2000’s, and was one
of the original MySpace
attorneys in Los Angeles. She
joined Yahoo! in 2007 and
remained there for 3 years as
both an outside counsel and an
in-house Director of Legal and
Business Development. In
addition to drafting,
reviewing and negotiating a
variety of entertainment,
technology and corporate
contracts, Laura has advised
on structuring entertainment
and internet partnerships,
handled complex co-productions
and drafted documentation for
gaming and software
transactions. She has handled
talent agreements, mediations,
distribution and advertising
deals and intellectual
property, privacy and
publicity matters as well as
merchandising and licensing
agreements for both television
and digital media.
Following
Yahoo!, Laura returned to a
Fremantle entity, Original
Productions, where she was
in-house counsel from
2010-2011, handling a variety
of entertainment projects.
She has recently been doing
work for other reality
television companies, acting
as counsel on various
productions and development
agreements both for television
and digital distribution.
Laura
joined Montage Legal Group in
2011 as a freelance attorney.
In addition to her legal
career, Laura enjoys spending
time with her family, reading,
skiing, swimming and travel. |
